NCPEN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

12/5/00, 9:30 am

NCPEN met on Tuesday, December 5, 9:30 am, in the CIS office in the N.C. medical Society Building.

Participants: Robin Roberts, Sally Sloop, C.J. Edwards, Wayne Matthews, Stephanie Moore, Barbara Kuligowski, Gina Wells, Ellyn Duvall, Henry Helms, Jean Fuller, Karen DeBord, Sheila Bazemore, and Cinda Wood Amen.

Upcoming newsletter topics and deadlines were discussed.  It was decided that the emphasis will be on membership and fatherhood.

A media campaign by Smart Start was discussed.  Pediatricians will be featured in the news clips.  It was decided that NCPEN will send a letter of support offering our expertise and help.

Henry shared new materials on state standards that are available.  Some may have local variations.  For more information, go to website: www.ncpublicshcools.org. Karen passed out copies of a draft Parenting Credential Application.  Discussion followed concerning course work, requirements, and grand fathering. 

Karen will look at the issues raised:  skill development; CEU break downs into modules; and how to make sure the credential is inclusive of persons currently in the field of parent education. 

Next meeting of NCPEN will be Wednesday, March 14, 9:30 am, location TBD.  At this meeting our topic will be the credential initiative.
